Physics-Based Wildfire Model

چکیده
Physics-Based Wildfire Model Track: EMS, Fire, Disaster Management Author(s): Charles Hall An advanced, physics-based supercomputer/GIS wildfires modeling system has been developed that incorporates chemistry, radiation physics, the local weather and its decisive two-way interactions with the fire, the effects of complex terrain on weather and fire behavior, and represents fuel in three dimensions. ArcGIS is being employed to efficiently process model input data (fuel and terrain) and to analyze the human and economic consequences. This prototype system can be used for preparedness, planning and education, vegetation management, and community development planning. Near-term capabilities include prescribed burn fire prediction, fire threat analysis, and firefighter training. Real-time firefighter support is a future advanced goal. Forests and rangelands? wildfire risk zoning using GIS and AHP techniques
Wildfire in forests and rangelands, apart from its initiating causes, is considered as an ecological disaster. Zoning natural areas according to their susceptibility to fire helps to put off operations and reduces catastrophic losses caused through a wise management plan. In this study, the zoning map of wildfire risk in forest and rangeland areas has been produced using GIS, Analytical Hierarc...
متن کاملUnifying wildfire models from ecology and statistical physics.
Understanding the dynamics of wildfire regimes is crucial for both regional forest management and predicting global interactions between fire regimes and climate. Accordingly, spatially explicit modeling of forest fire ecosystems is a very active field of research, including both generic and highly specific models. There is, however, a second field in which wildfire has served as a metaphor for...
متن کاملInteractive comment on “Wildfire particulate matter in Europe during summer 2003: meso-scale modeling of smoke emissions, transport and radiative effects” by A. Hodzic et al
General Comment: This paper describes the effect of wildfire particulate matter on air quality over a large part of Europe in 2003. It uses MODIS daily smoke emission inventory and a simple parameterization of injection altitude to prescribe the wildfire emissions in a meso-scale chemistry transport model. The authors conclude that the wildfire resulted in a significant enhancement of PM10 grou...
متن کاملAssessing Climate Change Impacts on Wildfire Risk in the United States
This study examines the statistical association of wildfire risk with climatic conditions and non-climate variables in 48 continental US states. Because the response variable “wildfire risk” is a fractional variable bounded between zero and one, we use a non-linear panel data model to recognize the bounded nature of the response variable. We estimate the non-linear panel data model (fractional ...
متن کاملDynamic Data Driven Application System for Wildfire Spread Simulation
Wildfires have significant impact on both ecosystems and human society. To effectively manage wildfires, simulation models are used to study and predict wildfire spread. The accuracy of wildfire spread simulations depends on many factors, including GIS data, fuel data, weather data, and high-fidelity wildfire behavior models. Unfortunately, due to the dynamic and complex nature of wildfire, it ...
